Frequently asked questions

What are SOLENA heat patches?

SOLENA heat patches are self-heating patches designed to deliver targeted, long-lasting warmth to specific areas of the body to support comfort during pelvic and muscular discomfort.

The Solena range includes:

• SOLENA-P, designed for the pelvic area

• SOLENA-S, designed for the shoulder and upper back

Are SOLENA heat patches used by healthcare professionals?

Yes. Solena heat patches are already widely used by New Zealand clinicians.

  • SOLENA-P was developed by a New Zealand pain physician and endometriosis specialist and is widely used to support comfort during pelvic pain.
  • SOLENA-S is commonly used by surgeons and healthcare teams to support comfort from post-operative shoulder-tip discomfort following laparoscopic or robotic surgery, as well as for general shoulder pain.

What is SOLENA-P used for?

Solena-P is designed to provide targeted heat to the pelvic area. It may be used to support comfort during:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Period pain and cramping
  • Endometriosis-related discomfort
  • Lower abdominal or lower back discomfort
What is SOLENA-S used for?

Solena-S is designed to provide targeted heat to the shoulder and upper back area. It may be used to support comfort during:

  • Shoulder and upper back discomfort
  • Muscular tension or stiffness
  • Desk or screen-related strain
  • Post-operative shoulder-tip discomfort
How do SOLENA heat patches generate heat?

SOLENA heat patches contain a carefully balanced blend of ingredients that begin to warm when exposed to oxygen in the air.

Once the packet is opened, oxygen activates the patch, triggering a gentle heating reaction that builds gradually and then stabilises. This allows SOLENA patches to deliver consistent warmth over many hours without the need for electricity or medication.

Because this process depends on oxygen:

  • SOLENA patches cannot be reheated
  • Heat cannot be “turned off” and restarted
  • Adding a layer of clothing or a towel helps regulate warmth

This is why SOLENA patches are worn over garments and why adding a layer on top can improve comfort if the heat feels too strong.

How are the patches worn?

SOLENA-P is worn on garments, not directly on the skin. Each pack includes two patches, which can be worn front and back at the same time or used individually.

SOLENA-S is worn over clothing, with a towel or jumper placed on top to help retain warmth and improve comfort.

How long does the heat last?

Both SOLENA-S and SOLENA-P are designed to provide 8–12 hours of continuous heat under normal use.

How quickly do the patches heat up?

The patches are air-activated and typically begin warming within a few minutes once opened.

Can I reheat the patches?

No. SOLENA-P and SOLENA-S are designed for single use only and should not be reheated or reused.

SOLENA patches generate heat through a natural reaction that begins when the patch is exposed to oxygen in the air. Once this reaction has completed, the patch will no longer produce heat and cannot be safely reheated.

Do not microwave, boil, or attempt to reheat SOLENA patches in any way.

If the patch feels too warm at any point, add an extra layer of clothing or place a towel or jumper over the area to help diffuse the heat. If discomfort continues, remove the patch.

What should I do if the SOLENA patch feels too warm?

SOLENA heat patches are designed to be worn over clothing, not directly on the skin.

If the warmth feels too strong, add an extra layer of clothing or place a towel or jumper over the area. This helps diffuse the heat while maintaining comfort. If discomfort continues, remove the patch.
